Miranda cosgrove bus crash
Cosgrove was sleeping on a couch near the front of the bus, when the bus collided with an over-turned tractor-trailer -- the vehicle hidden from view in the darkness. As TMZ reports, the driver caught sight of the semi before impact, and instead of swerving away -- and potentially flipping the bus -- he hit the brakes, ultimately smashing into the truck head-on.
"This was a life-threatening crash," a friend of Cosgrove's told People. "A piece from the tractor-trailer went straight through the windshield and the driver's arm was sliced all the way through."
According to TMZ, the bus driver was the worst injured in the collision, and was airlifted to hospital where he received 45 stitches. People reports that passengers who were sleeping in bunks at the time of the accident made it out unharmed. Cosgrove's mother, People's source notes, "got really beaten up by the crash."
"She's expected to fully recover, but it's scary because the driver was hurt, too, and he's in really bad shape," said the source.
According to MTV News, the driver is still in critical condition.
Cosgrove’s tour, which was set to continue through the U.S. in the coming weeks, has been postponed until further notice. As the teen star’s rep told TMZ, "Miranda thanks everyone for their understanding and support."
